Columbia Women's Mighty Lite Hooded Jacket

Women's Jacket Customer Reviews:* This Jacket is so warm! Perfect for weather 32 and below! It is also light and not heavy. Then only thing the zipper is hard to zip up. However, I love this jacket so much I give it 5 stars! It runs true to its size, my measurements are 34-25-37 and the small fits pefect, even when I have to wear a blouse and a sweater inside! * Personal Stats: I live in Western Maine, where sub-zero temperatures are a routine fact of life in the winter. I'm 6 feet tall, wear size 12/14, and ordered the XL in the bluish-grey color.PROS:- Coat is MUCH warmer than expected. When it arrived, I almost sent it back because I could not see how something so thin could possibly keep me warm in the winter. Boy, was I wrong! Even with just a thin layer underneath, I'm actually too hot in this jacket when out walking around in normal winter temperatures (15*- 30* F).- Sleeves are long enough for my arms-- can't tell you how happy this makes me!- Thumb holes in cuffs are an added plus, great way to seal out drafts when wearing mittens, or help keep hands warm without them.- Large, insulated hood.- Love the bluish grey color-- works with everything (including eyes, lol), and general cut of coat is flattering.- Great coverage: falls to mid-thigh on me, but wish it were knee-length (height issue).- Roomier cut than the other Columbia jacket I have--great to have the extra space for a sweater on really cold days.- It is truly MIGHTY light! Feels like you are wearing nothing, hence my surprise that it keeps me so toasty.- Wonderful non-down alternative. If you care about these things, this coat is vegan-friendly!- Metal zipper is a plus-- much sturdier than the plastic kind.CONS/ Suggestions for Improvement:- Sleeves are not quite long enough for my thumbs to fit through the thumb holes comfortably. However, I'm taller than average and I see that many people complain that the sleeves are too long. To augment that problem, it would be great if Columbia could offer Short and Tall size options.- Coat would be improved by adding an outer flap with snaps to cover the zipper. I find it annoying to have to constantly zip and unzip the zipper when I need ventilation or more freedom of movement, and an added flap would help prevent drafts. A snap flap would also come in handy during those times when you need to rush out of the house and don't have time to fumble around with the zipper, which can be difficult to get started.- Media pocket is not accessible from the outside of the coat-- you have to unzip the main zipper to get to it and thread your earphone wires up through the neck opening if you want to stay warm while listening to tunes, etc. Because of this, I find that I rarely use the pocket. It's probably better suited for a wallet.- Hood is not large enough to cover entire head if you have a ponytail and/or wear a winter hat. It would benefit from a drawstring cord to tighten it up. It does not stay in place on windy days.- White Columbia logo is gaudy. Who wants to be a walking advertisement?! At the very least, they could sew it with a darker color of thread.- Stitches on quilting could be tighter. On very windy/ cold days, I sometimes feel a slight draft, and once and a while, little hairs of insulation peek through the threads. However, these are common problems with quilted jackets of all kinds, and much less annoying than leaking bits of down all over the place.- Not waterproof, but apparently there is a spray you can buy to seal it. I've worn the coat in rain and wet snow and have not felt any moisture, but I'd imagine it would soak through if you were out in the rain for an extended period of time. That said, the coat dries out VERY quickly!CONCLUSION: For the $97 I spent on this coat, it was well worth the money. I've been living in it this winter! Recommended for anyone looking for a casual street coat that is suitable for colder climates. It's not rugged enough for serious outdoor adventures, but I just wore it on an hour-long hike in very windy 10* F weather with nothing but a light fleece on underneath, and I had to take off my hat and unzip the coat to avoid overheating. GREAT technology!!! However, because of the cut, I would not recommend this coat to the vertically challenged unless you have a simian build or enjoy keeping your hands in your sleeves.
