Therm-a-Rest Travel Cushion
Customer Reviews:* Four times a year I make a 30-hour one-way Amtrak trip (both going and returning, so total is 8 trips). I find the train seats are pretty flat from use and quite uncomfortable when one tries to sleep in them overnight, especially if one is a large person 5 feet 10 inches tall and 250+ pounds. After my second round trip, I bought a Therm-a-Rest Lite seat cushion, and was very pleased with the results on my next round trip. The Lite cushion provides even "padding" over the seat. I put it on the seat and used it throughout the 30-hour trip, which included a night of sleeptime. For the nighttime stretch, the Lite cushion was a little "thin." So I checked recently and discovered Therm-a-Rest has a new travel cushion designed "to provide relief for the Ischial (seat)bones during long flights or rides." This new cushion weights 3.5 oz, is made of 100% nylon. and measures rouglhly 17" X 12" with curved front and back edges to relieve pressure. Like the Therm-a-Rest Lite, it is a self-inflating cushion that can be deflated and rolled up, is made in the USA, and has a limited lifetime warranty. I appreciate the lightness of these cushions, both of which I now use on the trip. I start with the Lite cushion, which is roughly 15" X 16" and covers more of the train seat; then, when I am ready to sleep for the night, I switch to the Travel Cushion from 10pm to 7am the next day; I then switch back to the Lite for daytime hours. The firmness of these cushions is determined by how much one inflates them, so they can be made softer or firmer as one wants. If I had to buy only one cushion, I'd get the Lite, but having both does make my sleep easier. * I am planning a trip to Paris and know the seats in airplanes are so uncomfortable, so I ordered the Thermarest "lite", "zseat", and "travel" cushion to try at home. I should have listened to the reviews and just bought the travel cushion but I had to try for myself. The "Z seat" was the worst, the "lite" was good but just big enough to seemingly infringe on your thighs, the "travel" cushion was..... just right! It is fully adjustable and can be used as a seat cushion or lumbar support. I used it for a long car drive this weekend and had no difficulty that I usually experience on long drives. I am actually sitting on it now and am using it for extra cush on my computer chair. Great purchase, great product, great price.
