Merkur "Futur" Safety Razor, Satin Finish
Customer Reviews:* As much as I fell in love with the Merkur 180 when I first got it, it was causing massive razor burn (I never use shaving cream). However this one (at setting 3 of 6 which was my first try, did not cause any razor burn. Has a nice heavy feel also. Love it! * I've been using this razor since 2005 or 2006. It does a fine job.Is it slippery? I suppose. Soap is slipperier, and I don't often drop the soap. I have learned how to hold soap so that it doesn't fall. it's not that hard; my six year old son can hold soap without dropping it most of the time. I can hold a razor without dropping it, even when it's wet.I shave in the shower. The handle is completely wet, all the time. It's wet when I start and it's wet when I'm finished. I don't drop the razor very often, maybe once a year. When I handle things every single day, one drop out of 350 isn't bad. Especially when you're not paying that much attention to it.Is it hard to adjust? I can't remember. I haven't changed the setting on the razor since, oh, 2007. Why would I change it? It works where it is. I think I'm at a six. Maybe five, maybe seven. Maybe it's moved; I don't know. I don't think about it too much. I shave in the shower, as I mentioned, without a mirror because I'm not a guy who needs to be staring at my own face to get the job done. I have shaved mirrorless since 1990 or thereabouts. You get used to it.I don't plan to buy another razor, ever. I use cheap blades I buy at Wal-Mart because they're good enough and they're cheap. I use a blade for an indeterminate amount of time until it starts to catch a little, and then I change it. My annual expense on shaving is probably under $10. Compared with what some guys are spending with their Mach 17 blades, I've spent less in the past year than what they spend in a month. Makes me chuckle every time it comes to mind.Which isn't very often, because I have better things to do with my time than to think about shaving. Why am I writing this review, then? Because I am indeed shopping for a new razor. Not for myself, but for my wife. I'm tired of her borrowing my razor for her shaving needs. I'm buying her a razor of her own. I'm getting her a Merkur but not this model. Not because there's anything wrong with this model, but a $30 Merkur is just as good as this $75 one. What was I thinking when I bought this? I have no idea; it was a long time ago. This is a fine razor. It's not too slippery nor too hard to adjust for persons of normal abilities. It shaves at least as well as other safety razors, but I can't compare because I have only one face and need only one razor. This is my razor, and I'm happy with it.
