While on the road I plug it into the cigarette lighter & plug it in when I get to the destination. I bought it since I feed my two dogs a raw meat diet. I had frozen the meals in zip lock bags & they stayed frozen or partial frozen the entire week I was away from home. The only thing you have to be sure to connect the plug properly to have it cool. I put some blue tape on the plug as a reminder to connect it for cooling. I have used it on two trips & I'm very pleased.
