rechargable batteriesCustomer Reviews:* They're expensive but worth it. Go ahead and buy the spin-off ones if you want to- but when you're off having a shoot somewhere and suddenly the battery is dead and you're just standing there, sad and alone and powerless, you'll throw your hands to the sky, and with watery eyes ask yourself and Jesus, "WHY? WHY DIDN'T I JUST SPEND THE EXTRA $20 OR SO FOR THE EXCELLENT BATTERY?" * I use mine on the Sony slt-a57, and am very happy with it's performance. As I own a number of cameras, including a number of point and shoots, I have experience with both brand, OEM, and third-party batteries. My own experience has left me with the feeling that, for many point and shoot cameras, if a good quality third-party battery is available, they can be used as "backup" batteries, and that's exactly the approach I've ended up using: purchase two of the brand batteries, but then purchase also one or two of the third-party batteries to carry with me if I run out of power on the brand batteries during a long day of shooting. Since the third-party batteries can cost up to 80% off of the brand batteries, this is a pretty economical approach. But for DSLR cameras, I've found that, for me, it is best to stick with the brand batteries, because they tend to be more reliable in operation, tend to have longer life cycles, have a dependable charge for maximum shooting on location, and tend to work properly with the camera's computer-based battery readouts (such as Sony's battery icon display, as well as the estimated amount of minutes display, both of which can have trouble with third-party batteries). They are indeed more expensive, but they can be relied upon to a greater extent.Sony's NPFM500H battery here is a bit hefty compared to earlier variants, but it has an excellent charge capability. In fact, it seems so good that I doubt I'll purchase more than two extra copies, because it seems unlikely that I would go through three of them in a single day of shooting. Two might even be enough, but I like to have a backup of my backup! The battery is a genuine Sony, and you know that because the battery arrives in a blister pack that must be cut open, and contains the Sony factory hologram, so it's about as sure as you can be that this is a genuine Sony battery. Five stars.Note:Remember that, if you are shooting in freezing conditions (or even near freezing conditions) the amount of shots you can take from a fully charged battery may drop quite significantly. This is not a flaw of the battery, but is generally true of all batteries used in these conditions. rechargable batteries
